Psychology · Eating & Weight Disorders · Pediatric Obesity
About
Dr. Marian Tanofsky-Kraff is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and a Research Collaborator at the NIH's Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. One of the country's leading experts on the intersection of eating disorders and obesity, Dr. Tanofsky-Kraff has spent over two decades studying why and how disordered eating develops — with a particular focus on children, adolescents, and individuals in larger bodies. Her work goes beyond diagnosis. She investigates the psychological, biological, and behavioral factors that drive loss-of-control eating, emotional eating, and the lifelong weight gain patterns that begin in youth. She has published over 240 peer-reviewed papers, led multiple NIH-funded intervention trials, and trained 18 research fellows. She is a Fellow and past board member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and past President of the Eating Disorders Research Society. In her weekend private practice, Dr. Tanofsky-Kraff works with children, adolescents, and adults — providing assessment and therapy for individuals navigating disordered eating, binge eating, loss-of-control eating, and weight-related psychological distress. Her approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and rooted in decades of clinical research.
